Grease Trap/Environmental
Current Actions
- Waste oil and Filters are 100% recycled
- Used oil tanks from environmental projects are sent to metal recycling facilities
- In 2008, 2.4 Million gallons of wastewater was reclaimed and discharged back into the ecosystem
- Recycled 270,000 gallons of grease which was reused for fertilizer
Future Plans
- Meeting with Wal-Mart and Buffalo Biodiesel to discuss pilot programs for turning grease waste into biodiesel fuel
Asphalt/Concrete
Current Actions
- Recycled 56,000 tons of asphalt
- Recycled 3,800 yards of concrete
Future Plans
- Looking into citrus sprayers to replace diesel sprayers
Plumbing
Current Actions
- Recycle all copper, metals and paper
Future Plans
- Focusing on routing trucks more efficiently using less fuel
Stormwater
Current Actions
- Use biodegradable Erosion Control Blankets
- Use inlet protection devices that are reusable
- Use environmentally friendly cleaners
- Reusable de-watering devices
- Take into consideration repair methods to disturb as little as possible and use products that have
minimal impacts on the environment
- Continue to educate ourselves and our customers
- Manage construction waste thru proper disposal methods
- Route and schedule projects to optimize efficiency and fuel use
- Utilize recycling resources available to us
Fencing/Landscape/Structure
Current Actions
- Have recycled 2800/# of Tin and 200/# of Iron
- Taking yard waste to recycling center (when available)
- Department managers car pool
Future Plans
- Department is using a paperless time clock
- Set up a compost site for yard waste to be reused for fertilization
Electric
Current Actions
- 125 light fixtures, all with energy-saving low wattage fluorescent lamps and ballasts. Restrooms have
energy-saving auto switching for lighting and fans. All interior and exterior night lighting set on auto timers
for minimum usage.
- Hot water heaters are set at minimum temperatures.
- HAVC installed smart thermostats to reduce energy levels when offices are not in use
Shop
Current Actions
- Recycle 100% used oil/filters. In 2008, recycled 310 gallons of used oil
- Location for recycling center , recycle cans, bottles, and cardboard
